Kathryn Gustafson

Internationally acclaimed American Landscape Architect known for a large collection of award-winning works including the former Shell Headquarters in Paris, The Diana Memorial Fountain, London and currently Marina One in Singapore. Gustasfson seeks to channel art through her landscape design, making the landscape "nourishing and beautiful" (Kathryn Gustafson on The Art of Landscape Architecture 31/10/17). She designs on the basis of the unique character of a place and doesn't believe in designing decorative places that have no sense of identity with the immediate surroundings, she also considers the values of people living, using and moving through the space.

Gustafson uses plaster of Paris to sculpt her concept ideas, creating beautiful sculptures in the process. I find her work feels sensitive and compassionate within the landscape, using muted colours and restricted materials the designs seem quite tactile and immersive.
