The International Energy Agency estimates that for every kilogram of cement produced, around the same amount of Carbon Dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
About 5-7% of global gas emissions are produced by cement manufacturers
90 million tonnes of concrete is used every year in the UK
However...on a positive note...
Scientists have discovered that concrete can absorb sulfur dioxide (air pollutant)!
Scientists are mirroring coral reefs (Biomimicry!) and capturing carbon dioxide and combining it with calcium hydroxide to create limestone
The Palazzo Italia, Milan, has been enveloped in Biodynamic concrete panels to reduce smog levels
