Francisco Park, San Francisco

Francisco Park is a large recreational space which opened in April 2022 after 67 years of planning and negotiations! Formerly a reservoir which served the residents of Russian Hill, San Francisco, the park is now an inclusive multi-use space serving the community and visitors alike. The wide, accessible pathways link the different features within the park, there is an underground rainwater capture system for irrigation and they've managed to retain all the mature trees within the site. My only question is, why have they not included more trees in the design? There doesn't appear to be any prospective shade for the playground area, in a city where temperatures reach into the 40's. I can only think that residents wish to preserve the sense of void of the former reservoir and, perhaps, the partial views of the bay?
