I've been looking out for examples of sustainable riverside stabilisation and found 2 good examples: Left - Pittville Park, Cheltenham Right - The River Lune, Kirkby Lonsdale
Both have suffered from erosion from heavy rainfall and severe flooding. Kirkby Lonsdale has lost a wide stretch of footpath along the riverside. Using bioengineering, for example, Coir matting, pegged in by timber/willow pegs creates natural & biodegradable stability.
